Post Canada Day Hangover

How was everyone's Canada Day {for fellow Canadians of course :)}? We didn't have the best weather did we? I hope everyone made the best of their long weekend despite the less than stellar climate. When is Summer going to get here, seriously?

My last post was a recap of my lunch time trip to Wal-Mart, where I picked up some basics and tried to make a ruffled tiered skirt function as a work outfit.

I tried to pull this together by bringing out the flecks of purple in the skirt (originally I tried the neon green but the shirt wasn't really work appropriate). So I paired it with a purple tank and black basic cardigan.

 Cardigan: Le Chateau (old)
Tank: Wal-Mart (old)
Skirt: Wal-Mart (new)
Shoes: Novellino, been wearing these a lot lately, herehere and here

Normally I gauge my outfits on the reactions or compliments I get. My Rommie is always honest and she usually gives me a "you look nice" when I leave for work in the morning. The ladies I work with are pretty generous with outfit related compliments as well. But today, nothing....nada, zilch!

So I guess this look isn't a winner by most opinions but I really wanted this skirt to work for some reason. It's not that I spent a lot of money on it, it was only $14 but I thought it was a cute alternative to the regular pencil or A-Line skirts you normally see in an office. Oh well, I tried!

This blah response could also be due to the fact that I feel very blah today. No one likes returning to work after a long weekend but I feel like I ate and drank my way through the weekend. Probably because I did!

I didn't partake in any Canada Day Festivities downtown; just hung around the house and the pool.

But here's a peak at what I devoured:

Friday
Breakfast - McDonald's Egg McMuffin
Lunch -  Costco Hot Dog
Dinner - Tacos

Saturday
Breakfast - Croissant with Jam
Lunch -  Roast Beef Sandwich
Dinner - Chicken and Steak Kabobs

Sunday (went for an hour long walk)
Breakfast -  Bacon & Eggs with Toast
Lunch -  a Peach
Snack -  Chips and dip
Dinner - Smart Ones dinner

Monday (Canada Day!)
Breakfast - English Muffin with bacon, cheese and tomato
Lunch - Roast Beef Sandwich
Snack - Two Honey Garlic Ribs
Dinner - Homemade Burgers and Taco Salad

This list may not seem like a total pig-out but couple all of this not-so-healthy food with copious amounts of alcohol and you have yourself a Post Canada Day Hangover!

  1. My first post didn't go through so I'm trying again. Hi, I'm Jenn, I work with Chantal and Sarah.
Loved your outfit today. Very fun!
    A couple of things
    Tanning
Since we haven't had the best summer I am going tanning. Do you tan? How often do you think is good? Also, any suggestion on a cream or lotion for my legs. I find they get dry by the end of the day.
    Heels
You seem to be the only person who wears heels as much as I do. :) How do you feel about pedicures. I like to go once a month. Truth be told I usually wear heels around the office but have flip flops under my desk. I notice I get more looks in heels and my boyfriend loves it, though that doesn't seem to translate into foot massages.....that's another story.

That's all I want to ask...for now. :) Just want to say we love your blog and it is definitely a great distraction at work!

  2. Hi Jenn! Thank you for the feedback, much appreciated :-)
Tanning.....ugh tanning. I have a love-hate relationship with it. I love the way a tan looks and laying out in the sun reading a magazine is a guilty pleasure (when the weather co-operates). I do lay out in the sun sometimes but I always wear sunscreen and I wear face lotion with SPF every day.
In my early 20's I went to tanning salons on the regular. Now that I am in my mid-30's, I truly regret all of my visits to the tanning bed. Tanning salons will tell you that it is safe, you get vitamin D, you need a base before vacation...yadda-yadda. But sun damage is IRREVERSIBLE and all of the tanning you do will when you're younger will catch up with you one day. I would advise you to slap on sunscreen at least once in the morning and head out to enjoy the real sun. If you crave a dark color on your skin, self tanners have come a long way. A fellow blogger that I read had a great post on using self-tanners, here is the link: http://www.spiffykerms.com/2012/02/how-to-use-at-home-self-tanner/
I don't use self tanners because my skin has an olive tone but many friends of mine love using them :-)
I do love heels and just like you I keep a pair of flip-flops in my car. I also enjoy pedicures about once a month and I have transitioned from going to the salon to giving myself at home pedicures (that might be an idea for a post right there!) But once in a while I go to get a pedi professionally done to get all of the dead skin taken off.

Thank you so much for your kind words and I hope you get more foot massages from your BF in the near future. If not, pedis are a great alternative ;-)
